Feast of the Holy Family

Our Priest delivered a powerful homily yesterday on the feast of the Holy Family. God suprises us in some ways I think. From age to age he has constructed vignettes from which we may derive knowledge.

Fr Silvio's point was this: the family is a domestic parish. Because it is a domestic parish to grow it must consist of a father, a mother, and children. The domestic parish is a microcosm of the church community and therefore those things which occur at the parish must also occur in the home. Prayer and the scripture must be taught and said. A idealisation of community must be fostered and allowed to grow. In the family and in the parish we have the mission to evangelize and teach the faith. As Christians we must conform ourselves as closely as possible to the example set by Joseph, Mary and Jesus. There are those who would have us think that a deviation from this example is equal to if not superiour than that of the Holy Family. They are wrong precisely because they fail to follow a model which was conceived (for lack of a better term) by God.

This is why I stated that God has constructed this vignette of the Holy Family for the Sunday after Christmas. It shows that while the ministry of Christ began at a wedding it was already well underway at his birth.

GRBM 2008

Velocimage #18 ~ £300 for a Penny Farthing

"Still got too much money left after Christmas, £300"

Ambleside, Boxing Day.

Stuff: Another dispatch from the Department of Crazy Crap You Didn't Even Know You Had to Fear.

Here at ANTSS, the Department of Crazy Crap You Didn't Even Know You Had to Fear vigilantly surfs the Internet, day and night, even on weekends, barring major holidays and the second Sunday of every month, to bring you the latest in unlikely misery so you can rest a little less easily.

Last time, it was brain worms.

What's the new hotness in unlikely fear? Vampire moths.

Quit laughing. I'm serious. They're moths and they drink human blood.

The following clip has several images of the little beasties feeding. Enjoy.

If I were the President!

  1. I would sign a treaty with India and the rest of the world that for the next fifteen years, we wont fight no matter what happens. During those fifteen years, i will make sure that Pakistan gets stronger from within. I would not only form good plans but good governance.

  2. I would call all the top think tanks of Pakistan and would take them on a vacation. We will brain storm until we have got a meaningful way-forward plan for this country.

  3. I would privatize all schools but would make sure that the fees is minimal. Privatization imposes good quality. Low fees allows maximum reach. We have tried government schools but they all suck!

  4. I would take a tour of all prisons in Pakistan and would release all the prisoners who are living there because they committed a crime of being poor, because they couldn’t afford a lawyer, because they had no one who could speak for them, because they had no contacts with the judge, because they could not afford to bribe.

  5. I would decrease the defense budget and would lay infrastructure instead. Would make dams, roads, railways!

  6. I would improve the tourism department. We have got so much natural beauty but no one cares!

  7. I would fire the current governor of State Bank. Her PhD is no good for us. The woman has no vision, no will to change the economy of our country. That woman has got so much power but alas, she is sleeping over the sinking desires of our nation. Our inflation rate is so high. A State Bank is supposed to work independently from the state but her hands seemed tied up, her brain choked. I dont know why they have put her up. I’m really sorry but i do blame her for the economic slump which we will faced. If people in power think that they are helpless than only God can come down and fix things for us. Sigh!

  8. I would put a quota on the amount of money you can store in foreign banks.

  9. I would decrease the power of Chief of Army Staff so that the guy and the next generation of generals don’t even think about cue for the years to come.

  10. I would make judiciary independent.

  11. I would not stuff  the senate and the assemblies with too many ministers. Their salary comes out of our taxes and i hate paying a huge tax just to fill their accounts.

  12. I would raise the import tax and would help the local industries to grow.

  13. Honor Killing is something which i detest like anything. If anyone has problem with his sister/mother, he should hang himself and let the poor lead a life the way she wants to. Its a woman’s and God relationship and no one has a right to live/dictate anyone else’s life. I seriously hate those who slaughter the innocent souls. Women are not made physcially stronger. God has not given us the physical strength to fight a man. When Allah has made us delicate and fragile, how can a man brutally hit a woman? Women are to be treated mildly and this is what Quran says. If anyone has any problem, cut off all the connections with her, dont talk to her if she displeases you but not in God’s name, take law in your hand and start hitting her. I would revise the family law and make sure that women are equally treated.

  14. I would call the media and tell them to project a better image of our country. One blast takes place and all the channels would show the dreadful story for three days ;( bad things happen but at the global level, we are liable for our reputation. The truth must be told but not at the expense of our repuation. Our media plays a major role to project the worst image of our country. There is not a single good thing about Pakistan which the world at large knows…Not because we havn’t done anything, its because the media never takes the pain to tell the good. I have talked to quite many friends and relatives  living abroad and almost everyone says that we have this impression that bombs blasts in every other street and the country is in complete fiasco but when we come here, we dont encounter any such thing. Image building is what ill do!

  15. I would essentially try changing the economy and everything else will change automatically… Good quality of life broadens one’s mind and people start thinking positivily. Good thinking is translated into good gestures.

  16. I dont like it when people fight. I will make sure that everyone is happy. I’ll dig every possible way to know the secret of happiness and will make everyone happy and contentful.

DJ Thoka - You Make Me Feel So Good

12/28/2008

fabulous.

Later that day I got to thinking about relationships. There are those that open you up to something new and exotic, those that are old and familiar, those that bring up lots of questions, those that bring you somewhere unexpected, those that bring you far from where you started, and those that bring you back. But the most exciting, challenging and significant relationship of all is the one you have with yourself. And if you find someone to love the you you love, well, that’s just fabulous.

Choosing the Right Company for Your Web Hosting Needs

Choosing the Right Company for Your Web Hosting Needs

Before you sign up for just about any random web hosting company, it is important to evaluate and ascertain the levels of your hosting requirements, set a hosting budget, familiarize yourself with various aspects, features and tools of a hosting account and only then should you go searching for a professional and superior web hosting company. Given that there are a vast number of hosting companies out there; searching for a host of your choice that perfectly fits your budget could be a daunting task, especially for the novice web owner. While pricing is a predominant factor that comes into play, there are many other factors that need to be considered when you go shopping for a web host.

If you plan to host just a few simple pages that do not require e-commerce or multimedia enabled features, then usually the most basic hosting package (like shared hosting) would be best suited for you. The basic packages are usually reasonably priced and offer all the required features and tools, bandwidth and disk space that would be sufficient to host your site and perhaps much more.

For websites like small to medium sized businesses would want to either consider advanced shared hosting packages or the dedicated hosting package. This is because the nature of these websites would naturally require higher levels of hosting features, bandwidth and disk space. These websites are likely to receive higher amounts of traffic, would feature considerable amount of downloadable data and would also require ample room for growth. Therefore, the advanced hosting packages would be able to furnish these hosting requirements.

It is a good idea to involve in online interactive forums and blogs so that you could read user reviews and testimonials and then make a well-informed decision about choosing the right hosting provider. One aspect that cannot be overlooked while host searching, is the level and quality of customer support offered. The quality of support offered can either make or break your website. Think of it this way. If your website goes down due to some technical error or other unforeseen crisis, the company needs to have a solid contingency plan in place. Furthermore, you should have 24/7 access to their customer support system in order to keep abreast with the latest news and information as well as have your issues and queries addressed promptly. This would help you save ample money and time or else you would soon find yourself searching for yet another web host. In order to obviate this, a good amount of research and analysis plays a vital role in host searching.
