Happy New Year to you!
Phil and I met up at 10am this morning for the first ride of 2009. It was frigging freezing, in fact it was -2C. The landscape, frozen, wintry, monochromatic and devoid of any direct illumination seemed as if it was being viewed through a thin white veil. Despite being well covered with thermal gear, the old leg muscles were complaining about the cold,

as Phil put it "it's like cycling through cold treacle".
Regardless of my cold feet, and Phil's frozen hands, we had a very enjoyable few hours cycling through some lanes that we don't normally visit. We committed ourselves to riding at a steady level 2/3 pace and even managed to hold a good conversation for much of the way. There was a cyclo-cross event on at
Griffydam where we enjoyed some rather nice cake and hot tea. It was good to see some other familiar faces too, including fellow LVRC member Mr Hackley from MI Racing. After warming up our extremities a little we set off again into the lanes of south Nottinghamshire for another 2 hours of endurance riding.
I'd just completed 4 hours of pedalling and 68 miles when I got home. After spending the last couple of hours trying to coax half frozen energy drink out of my bottles, hot soup and thick slices of toast never tasted so good!
