Intentions And Vows In Japa

Hare Krsna everyone. Reading a New Year's lecture from my gurudev Giriraj Swami, I felt touched by his explanations about what resolutions are. According to him it's nice to have resolutions, they are like sankalpa: intentions but there is also another thing more important than intention, vrata: vow, they are stronger and if we don't follow them there will be some consequences.
Naturally I have perceived that I made vows this year, resolutions also but I made a vow of chanting some extra rounds on certain days of the week. I have been doing this for 2 days already and I am feeling very well. The main thing now is to chant these rounds properly so I can have quantity and also quality. Its important that this year be much better than the last one, a year that we can be more engaged in hearing, chanting and remembering the Lord. If we do that our purpose in this life will be fulfilled and for a devotee, his only aim is to serve the Lord in any circumstance - in this body, in his next body - so he is always free from any anxiety because he knows Krsna protects him.
A devotee in this lecture asked a very important question about faith: "If one does not have full faith in the Holy Name but at the same time is trying to chant, still not having full faith how can he bridge the gap and have full faith?"
HH Giriraj Swami replied: "By chanting attentively you will feel the benefit of chanting, and that will increase your faith. And by associating with devotees who have more faith, you can also develop more faith. But if we chant negligently, we won't get much benefit and we will have more doubts. But if we chant diligently, we will get great benefit, we will feel the benefit and our faith will increase."
That's a very important point here and also something that I hear in the Japa room every weekend, to get the benefit we should get devotees association, chant with attention and by doing this we will feel the purifying effects and it will increase our faith.
Wow this is another nice vow to make, watch our chanting and be attentive to perceive any obstacle trying to work on them in order to have our Japa better than last year.
Maybe you have other vows or resolutions to make here, please share them with us, it would be nice to hear from you all the nice intentions you have for this year.

Hare Krsna.

your servant,

Aruna dd
